​At Allen Park Presbyterian Church, we want you to feel connected and cared for. That's why we offer a variety of activities and ministries for people of all ages and interests. ​Game Night (Third Friday 7 to 9 PM)

​Are you ready for some fun and fellowship?  Join us for a board game night hosted by the Nurture and Discipleship Committee on Friday, October 20 from 7-9 PM in the Fellowship Hall this month.  Whether you’re a fan of Scrabble, Monopoly, Uno, or something else, we have games for everyone. You can also bring your games if you like.  All you need to do is bring a snack to share (optional) and your competitive spirit.  We’ll provide water and lemonade to keep you hydrated. Save the date, and invite your friends and family to join you.  It’s going to be a blast!  Hosted by the Nurture and Discipleship Committee 

New Lay-Led Study (Parlor and Zoom)

Join our lay-led study of the Book of Confessions of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). The study will consist of six sessions exploring the creeds and confessions of the Book of Confessions.
Confessions hold a significant place in our faith tradition, as they signify our willingness to adapt our beliefs based on the word of God, the influence of the Holy Spirit in our lives, and our own introspection. This process of continuous reform is at the core of our faith.  The study will be held on the third Wednesday of every month, except for December and January, and will end on March 24, 2024. It will be a hybrid study, held at 7 p.m., both in-person in the parlor and online through Zoom.

Here are the dates for each session:

• Session 1: The Nature and Function of Confessions - Wednesday, September 20, 2023
• Session 2: The Ancient Creeds: Who Is God? - Wednesday, October 18, 2023
• Session 3: The Reformation Confessions: What Is the Church? (Part 1) - Wednesday, November 15, 2023
• Session 4: The Reformation Confessions: What Is the Church? (Part 2) - Wednesday, February 21, 2024
• Session 5: Twentieth-Century Declarations: What Is the Church’s Mission in the World? - Wednesday, March 20, 2024
• Session 6: Carrying Our Mission into the Twenty-First Century - Wednesday, April 17, 2024

In our group, “lay-led” means that the leader is not an expert but rather a participant who leads alongside others. Our discussions will be guided by a leader’s guide. We recommend that participants purchase the book titled Exploring the Book of Confessions, Participant’s Book for further reference. You can order the book online for $8 at The PC(USA) Store. Cardmaking Class (September 19)

​​Come and join us for a monthly cardmaking class on the third Tuesday of the month from 10 AM to Noon in the parlor. This is a fun opportunity to enjoy fellowship and learn new skills while creating your own greeting cards. The cost is only $5 per class, and all proceeds will go to the Honeycomb Food Pantry. Please bring your own scissors and adhesives. Space is limited to ten people per class, so register early! Camp Wakanda Work Weekend

​​We need your help to make Camp Wakanda a better place for everyone. Whether you are a cook, a cleaner, a carpenter, a plumber, an electrician, or anything in between, you are welcome to join us for a work weekend from October 20 to 22, 2023. Please let us know when you can come and what skills you can offer. We appreciate your support and generosity.

​​Annual Trunk or Treat (October 27)

We will hold our annual Trunk or Treat event on ​Friday, October 27, from 5 to 7 PM on Park Avenue in front of the church. The event aims to support the community in a fun and safe way.
 
Here is how you can get involved and make our event a success:

• Decorate the trunk of your vehicle and pass out candy during the event. Contact Kathy Hollowell for details and to be added to the list: kahollow3@gmail.com or 313-610-3202. Spots are limited - sign up early!

 
Contact Kerri Van to help with these items before, during, and after the event:

• Help with setup and crowd control
• Be a runner to distribute candy (we need teams to cover both sides of the street.
• Organize candy in the church bus and van during the event (perfect if you want to be a part of the fun but not decorate a trunk).
• Help with clean up.

 
Donate candy and goodies.

• Each year, our Halloween event continues to grow in popularity. To make it a success, we count on your generous donations of candy and goodies. You can drop off your donations in the Halloween Box at the church or use our Amazon Wishlist. If you choose the latter, please use the shipping address "Trunk or Treat" when checking out. Your donations will be delivered directly to us.
